FIELD TECHNICIAN/ JUNIOR SCIENTIST
cbec is looking to recruit for a position within our technical team. The primary role will be in field data collection, predominantly topographic/ bathymetric surveying but also fluvial audits, sediment sampling and flow measurements. The position will involve a combination of on-site data collection and office-based processing and analysis. It will be based mainly from either cbec’s Alloa or Inverness office.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Supporting topographic/ bathymetric surveys and hydrological or other fluvial assessments
- Process collected data and generate required outputs
- Manipulation and analysis of data using GIS and Excel
- Provision of technical input to project reports and proposals
- Communicate regularly with project managers and other technical team members
- Adhere to all HSE requirements (e.g. site inductions)
Essential Criteria:
- Be educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject, with an interest/ understanding of fluvial environments
- A willingness to travel within the UK and to work outside in adverse weather conditions
- Excellent IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
- Good communication skills (e.g. oral presentations and report writing)
- Ability to use initiative and best-judgement to resolve problems
Desirable Criteria:
- A knowledge of surveying and the use of field equipment (e.g. RTK-GPS, Total Station) and associated processing software
- Experience of CAD and GIS software
- Understanding of hydraulics, hydrology and hydraulic modelling
