cbec, in conjunction with Salix, undertook outline and detailed design development on the River Ver, a peri-urban river near St Albans
The outline design phase of works involved two adjacent reaches of the degraded chalk stream. Geomorphic and ecological surveys, a utilities search and a Phase 1 ground investigation study were undertaken as part of this initial phase, with the developed outline designs being presented by cbec at a stakeholder/community engagement event. A selected option was chosen for the upper reach (Hedges Farm), for which a topographic survey, 2D hydraulic modelling and detailed designs were completed. Following approval by the Environment Agency, cbec undertook construction supervision to ensure the design was implemented correctly and allow for field fitting where local constraints required minor adjustments to the design. Construction was completed successfully in Autumn 2019.
