Expanding Our Expertise: Estuarine and Tidal River Restoration

CBEC offers a comprehensive range of services for the assessment, design, and implementation of restoration projects within estuaries and tidal rivers. Building on our extensive experience in river and floodplain restoration, we’ve expanded our focus to include estuarine environments, applying the same high standards of ecological insight and technical precision.

Our in-house team includes experts in coastal geomorphology and estuarine science, enabling us to deliver robust assessments and practical, sustainable restoration solutions. We have a strong track record in the feasibility, design, and construction of estuary habitat enhancement projects, including salt marsh restoration and the enhancement of artificial features such as quays and retaining walls.

Using detailed and scientifically grounded assessments, we design and monitor projects to ensure long-term success and ecological benefit.

CBEC is proud to be the lead consultancy piloting MoRPh Estuaries Pro, a cutting-edge habitat assessment method developed by Queen Mary University of London with CBEC support. This tool enables us to assess physical habitats within estuarine systems with greater precision.

As part of this pilot, we have conducted MoRPh Estuaries Pro surveys at several project sites to establish baselines prior to implementing saltmarsh restoration measures—ensuring that outcomes can be accurately monitored and optimized for environmental gain.

Our in-house modelling team further supports these efforts with the ability to run sediment transport models, allowing us to tailor restoration designs to site-specific conditions. The result is a more natural, resilient restoration that works in harmony with existing coastal processes.
