Fraser Drummond MSc

Consultant – Surveying

Fraser has an MSc in Land and Hydrographic Surveying from the University of Glasgow and an undergraduate degree in Geology from the University of Edinburgh. His undergraduate degree provided him with a solid foundation in a wide range of subjects such as sedimentology, structural geology, hydrogeology and geomorphology. This has given him an understanding of how the subsurface affects the formation of topography. For his dissertation, he completed a mapping project in the Austrian Alps, inspecting minor geological structures and their record of the alpine orogeny.

During his MSc, he studied geomatics, GIS, engineering surveying, land surveying and hydrographic surveying, paying particular attention to the core principles of surveying. He gained practical experience in conducting topographic surveys using a total station, terrestrial laser scanner and GNSS equipment, applying a variety of land survey techniques and processing the collected data.

Fraser completed a work placement with Andrews Survey as part of his degree programme. He worked offshore on two projects in the North Sea, providing survey support for inspection and construction projects. He was responsible for the organisation and monitoring of datasets, calibration and verification of survey equipment and assistance with online survey operations. As a junior field technician, Fraser assists with topographic and bathymetric surveys and GIS analysis.
