Síofra earned her first-class honours bachelor’s degree in Geography and Geology in 2023 form University College Dublin, where her undergraduate thesis investigated the timing, volume, and extent of ice-rafted debris offshore west of Ireland in the North Atlantic Ocean. Síofra has experience in a range of fieldwork settings, including offshore research as part of her MSc studies aboard the research vessel RV Tom Crean. Her strong academic background encompasses geomorphology, geology, environmental science, and spatial analysis. She is scheduled to graduate from her MSc in Risk, Resilience, and Sustainability in December 2024 with a first-class honour. During this program, Síofra continued her research from her undergraduate thesis, exploring climate forcing mechanisms on iceberg activity in the North Atlantic and the role of seafloor morphology in the deposition and displacement of ice-rafted debris sediments. Her thesis involved the use of δ¹⁸O data from ice cores, sediment flux data from academic publications, bathymetry maps and geochemical data from marine sediment cores from the Geological Survey of Ireland.
Síofra’s undergraduate and master’s degrees equipped her with skills in ArcGIS, laboratory techniques, fieldwork, and various academic writing formats, such as posters, reports, and online applications. She was also honoured to receive the Geography graduate medal for achieving the highest grades in her undergraduate graduating class.
